Year 7 STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

This term, Year 7 has been designing, building and testing bottle rockets in class. This project has involved learning about forces, measuring distances and properties of different materials. Students practiced using the design process to plan, implement and evaluate their project.

Year 8 STEM

(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)

This term, Year 8 STEM students have been undertaking a Paddock to Plate program. Students had to research and design a vegetable garden, in which they could grow potatoes. Each class then had to construct and fill their garden after learning about composting, worm farming and a range of agricultural and horticultural practices. Students then measured and calculated the area and volume of their gardens. Using a square metre garden technique students divided their garden into smaller sized plots and are responsible for the planting and ongoing maintenance of their own plot. The potatoes they grow will be used to cook a recipe of their creation in their Technology Mandatory class. This project is also an example of how each student can implement sustainable practices in their own homes.

Check out the progress!

These photos were taken on Monday 6th, April - can you spot your potato?
