Year 7 Camp 2020 - Milson Island

During week 7, the majority of the Year 7 cohort attended a 3 day camp at Wilson Island located in the Hawkesbury River. Students travelled by coach and then a short ferry ride to the island, where they were involved in a variety of activities. This included high ropes, kayaking, canoeing, archery, damper-making and bush walking. There were also many team building activities such as mini challenges of staking crates and raft building in the pool, designed to establish close bonds with peers whilst also having lots of fun. In addition to these jam-packed days, each night after dinner the students assembled in Milson Island's 'rec hall' to participate in countless games and challenges run by amazing instructors from the island. This included the memorable final evening where teachers and students enjoyed a disco and danced the night away.

A big thank you to all teachers who spent 3 very tiring but rewarding days ensuring the safety, involvement and well being of all students; Laura Humphreys, Natalie Szymanski, Catherine Jenkins, Helen Eade, Mandy Cheung, Kate Dunn, Yifan Wang and Helen Wang. We were incredibly impressed by the outstanding behaviour and enthusiasm of the Year 7, who definitely have made life long memories entering the Canterbury Girls High School community. We hope they can look back fondly on the experience.

Writing Competition

CGHS students may like to know (if you don't already!) about the What Matters? Writing Competition run by the Whitlam Institue:

https://www.whitlam.org/publications/2020/2/7/what-matters-2020-now-open-for-entries

This year, perhaps more than any other, it's important we provide a forum for young people to express their views and help adults and the broader public listen to the voices of young people on 'What Matters'! And of course, students can enter the competition online.
