Principals Message

Dear Parents,

Once again I am in awe of the generosity of our school community in relation to supporting worthy causes. In tough economic times we give serious thought to what we ask parents to support. We did not think the Book Fair would be as successful as it was but final sales came in at around  $7000. Perhaps it was the sales pitch of Mrs Swain that helped, I went in to buy one book for my grandson and came out with a box set! Thank you to all who were able to support the Book Fair.

There was a great response to our Pink It Up for Gunnedah day as well. The Year 5 parents and students did an outstanding job in providing an array of pink delicious food for the whole school to enjoy. We will present Mrs Colleen Fuller an amount over $1000 for this most worthy cause at our Assembly on Monday.

Currently all students are being tested in English and Maths. Certain data is due to the Catholic Schools Office mid term and of course the results indicate to us what changes we may need to make to our lessons between now and the end of the year.

We are impressed with the impact the Spelling Stars program, the Words Their Way program and The Big Write program are having on all students. Our growth in all these areas is pleasing. I hope parents took time to read the letter regarding reading levels that was sent out last week. There has been some interesting discussion in meetings regarding the comprehension skills of students. Every day we learn something more about our students that allows us to plan more effectively to meet  their particular needs.

This term is full of exciting experiences and challenges. Quality teaching will take place right to the end of term so it is important that students are present until the end. There will be some fun of course along the way! Please come and see us if there is anything you are concerned about.

Kind regards,

Jen

Generous Donation

On Monday Mr Brett Donoghue from Agracom presented the school with a cheque for $2000. The money was part of a sum raised from a Golf Day. Along with Brett’s children Amy (Yr5) and Charlotte (Yr 1) all the children will benefit from this generous donation. The money is going towards building an entrance to the back of the Hall stage. This will allow for more creative use of the stage during future performances.
