Year 7 & 8 Endeavour Program
Year 7 Endeavour Program
The Year 7 Endeavour Program has been designed to assist students to transition into high-school at a time when students are confronted with emotional and intellectual changes in middle years of their schooling. We also recognise that we need to guide young people through the challenges presented by a rapidly changing world.
The Endeavour Program supports staff to address the needs of students at this point in their development by:
- encouraging a sense of belonging with the wider school community
- promoting wellbeing within the classroom and across the school
- providing curriculum materials to strengthen student resilience
- exploring ‘big picture’ ideas such as empathy, fairness and safety
- enabling teacher collaboration and team-work across the curriculum to create connections with students
- discovering new ways to learn through study techniques, careers advice and leadership opportunities
Activities based around social skills are also a focus. These include: Big Dreams and Goals, Leadership at SOC, Effective Study Skills, Planning your Future Career, and Emotional Intelligence.
Building resilience in young people is an important goal if we are to strengthen capacity and promote skills that help to reduce mental health problems. One way to foster resilience in young people is through meaningful youth participation; that is, decision-making by young people that involves meaning, control, and connectedness.
Kylie G. Oliver, Philippa Collin , Jane Burns, and Jonathan Nicholas
The program has so far covered lessons that include – Using Microsoft Teams; Becoming a Leader at SOC; Careers-Planning; Goal-Setting and Creating a Bucket List; BSEM Character Strengths.

LEARNING TO CONNECT: UPDATE
Everyone has struggled, at some point, with fitting in at school. You may be shy or going to a school where you don’t know anyone else. There are different ways to meet people and find your place at your school. If one method does not work, you can always try something different. Be confident and patient; fitting in takes time.
THE CROW AND THE PITCHER: THERE'S ALWAYS A WAY!
The Story: A thirsty Crow comes across a pitcher, which had been full of water. But when it puts beak into the mouth of the pitcher, he cannot reach the water. He keeps trying but then gives up. At last he comes up with an idea. He keeps dropping pebbles into the pitcher, soon the water rises up to the top and his is able to quench his thirst.
The Lesson: Little by little does the trick. When at first you don’t succeed, try, and try, and try again! Persistence is the key to solving any problem. If your first solution doesn’t solve the problem, think of another solution. Keep trying until you get the answer. After all, it’s better than doing nothing at all!
