Year 7 Camp 2021

Year 7 Alexandra Adventure Camp

In the second last week of Term 1, Year 7s attended Mt Alexandra Adventure resort for three days.  This was a fantastic opportunity for students to get away from the confines of school, and develop some important bonds with students and teachers like.  This was a significant trip for Year 7s as many would not have been on a camp for two years, nor away from home, independently, for some time.  Students engaged in a series of activities that extended them physically and mentally, solving a variety of problems, such as designing a reliable raft and negotiating the high-ropes course.  Perhaps it is best reflected upon by one of our students, Yohan Soju:

“Year 7 Camp was one of the best I’ve ever been on.  I made new friendships, and I made my friendships with my other friends stronger and I had a great time.  The activities were amazing too.  They really made up for the fact that I didn’t get to attend last year’s camp because of COVID 19.  We did canoe, flying fox, raft-building, orienteering, rock-climbing and much more.  Canoeing was really fun and exciting as I had never done it before.  Although it was tiring, it was very fun moving the boat across the lake.  Like all camps, Alexandra Adventure Camp had a flying fox, however, this one was a lot better because we flew over the lake!  One of the things that I learnt over the camp is how bad I am at making a raft.  But at the end of raft-building, we got to have some fun and ride on the barrels on the water.  Rock-climbing was a bit scary for me when I saw how high the tower was.  But I tried it and it wasn’t that bad.  Plus, the best part was coming down.  The rest of the activities that I did were as fun as the ones I listed but, in my opinion, canoeing, rock-climbing, raft-building and the flying fox were by far my favourite activities.  The meals at the camp were awesome.  The cooked potato was amazing.  The ham and cheese sandwiches I got on the last day were delicious.  The brownies I got on the first and last days were great.  But the best meal in my opinion was the chicken schnitzel.  You can tell how much I enjoyed it because I had three!  The air hockey and table tennis tables that were there were really fun.  All the Year 7s had a blast playing the games that were provided in the BBQ area.  Out of all the camps I have been to, the Year 7 camp was by far the best one.  All the teachers were friendly, my cabin friends were fun and the activities were amazing.  Overall, I rate this camp a 9/10.”

Year 7 Students Camp Reflections
I LOVED camp!  I made a ton of new friends due to cabins.  I also did some activates I thought I would never do, such as, canoeing and raft building which was SO FUN.  The food was OK: the first day, food wasn’t all that great because my pasta was all hard and stuck together.  The chicken schnitzel was AMAZING, though.  The bus-drive home was probably the worst part because my back was ACHING SO MUCH.  During the middle of the bus drive we stopped at a park and had lunch.  The view WAS CRAZY!  Overall, I had the best time ever.  Thank you, teachers!!

Camp was amazing.  We got to school at eight in the morning then went on a two hours bus-drive to where we would spend the next three days.  When we got there, we got a tour around the place, which included a volleyball court, giant swing and a lake as well as many other things.  Cabins was the best part of the camp.  In my cabin, I had Nikita, Campbell, River, Jules, Eden, Augie and Jaewan.  The first night we got no sleep and we stayed up playing games.  The second night we got so much sleep and we were ready to get home.  The best activity was rock climbing because I got my PB on a ten-metre wall.

This year we went to Alexandra Resort for the Year 7 camp.  We did many different activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, raft building and many more.  It was about a 2-and-a-half-hour drive to camp but we had a great time on the bus, chatting away.  When we got there, we were put into activity groups and off we went.  I was put into a group with Mr Fernandez and we had an absolute blast.  I made so many new friends within my group and also outside of it.  The service was great and the staff was very welcoming and helpful.  There were a few ups and downs to this trip, but most people had an amazing time on this wonderful camp.

Camp was a good experience to get away from home and without any electronics and live without my parents for 3 days and 2 nights.  There were a lot of activities that I have enjoyed with my friends such as flying fox, kayaking, playing table tennis and much more.

Camp was a great opportunity and was a fun time to get off technology and spend time outdoors.  And make new friends.  We also learnt about wild life and how there are lots of animals that are endangered because of people hunting them.  But we also did lots of activities and had lots of fun doing them like kayaking and raft building.  And I had a lot of fun with the people in my cabin and are now closer than before

The Year 7 Camp was honestly better than I thought it would be.  All of the camps I have participated in were fun and active.  But the year 7 camp was much more than that.  From it I made new friendships, I made my friendships with my other friends stronger and I had a great time. Like all camps, Alexandra Adventure Camp had a flying fox; however, this one was a lot better because we flew over the lake! The rest of the activities that I did were as fun as the ones I listed but, in my opinion, canoeing, rock-climbing, raft-building and the flying fox were by my favourite activities. Overall, I rate this camp a 9/10.
