Term I: Careers News

YEAR 9S AND THE MORRISBY PROGRAM

Morrisby is a word that has been heard and discussed quite a bit over the term at South Oakleigh College. Almost all of our Year 9 students have just recently completed the Morrisby online discovery tool.  This program is designed for students to create a plan for their future that is specific to who they are and how they work and learn. Earlier in the term, each Year 9 student completed the Morrisby assessment which provided them with a tailored report outlining their results and a number of subject and career suggestions that matched these results.  To help students better understand these reports, each student had the opportunity to have a 30-minute conversation with a career consultant, to ask any questions, review their reports and get the ball rolling in terms of thinking about realistic career options and goals.

The feedback from both the students and the career consultants was overwhelmingly positive. The Year 9s were eager to complete the testing and look through their reports, and the career consultants were impressed with the amount of preparation the majority of the students had done in their own time before the career interviews.  These reports are a great starting point for career discussion and planning.  I will be working with the Year 9s in Term 2 to use these reports, and the information from them, to create a career action plan and to help students with their subject selection for Year 10, later in the year.

(Most students in Year 10, 11 and 12 at South Oakleigh will have completed a Morrisby profile when they were in Year 9 or 10; if students want to access these reports at any time, but are having trouble logging on, I can help them access the platform.)
