Selamat Siang!

Week 2 was packed full of fun and excitement that’s for sure! A highlight being our ‘Twilight Sports’ on Thursday! It was fantastic to see students dressed in their house colours and ready to race with their friends. Students loved the novelty race and did such a wonderful job of running and jumping with two feet to land in the hoops on the way to the finish line! We were grateful to share this event with many parents and we know that students were grateful to have you there too.

In Literacy this week we have been focusing on listening to the last sound in words to find matching rhyming words. This is still something that we will work on throughout the term. Students were excited to meet our new codes this week as we introduced our two letter codes! They blew us away by brainstorming words that have our new codes in them. Students are becoming more confident writing their weekend recount now so this week we had a go at writing a recount about Twilight Sports! Check these out!!

In Maths, we explored the different ways we can make 10 using our double sided blue and yellow counters. Students practised finding different ‘Friends of 10’, like how four and six are friends of 10, and recording them in their maths book using pictures and numbers. We also practised our speedy subitising and counting by racing our friends to 10 in our tens frames. The week finished with an open ended problem for students to solve using counters to determine how many boys and girls there might be if we got 10 new Foundation students!

FH spent time exploring in the garden! We found lots of snails and moved them to a new home - on top of the old vegetable plants - where they would have lots of yummy food without eating our new plants. The students did a wonderful job of weeding to keep our garden tidy as well as showing teamwork by working in their house colour teams to move some of the mulch!

On Friday, we sent our Take Home Toys home with their first family and have loved hearing about their adventures this morning! Please ensure that you check your child's class schedule so that you know when you will be hosting a Take Home Toy.
