Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

What another productive and busy week we have had in the Inquiry Centre! In writing we have continued to work on planning our narrative stories and thank you for your support with the students’ ‘Talk Homework’ to assist them develop their ideas. We continue to work on boundary punctuation as well as adding more adjectives to our writing to make it more interesting for the reader. Students have also been giving each other feedback on their writing. This has been very successful and was lovely to see everyone taking on feedback so well!

In Maths we have been working on a number of addition strategies. We have played a number of fun games using cards, dice and dominoes including 4 in a Row, Pairs to 10 and Doubles snap, where first to add the number wins the round! In the coming week we will be learning about Time so any opportunity you have to look at a clock or discuss the time please do so to support your child’s learning in this area.

In Reading we have continued to read a variety of books and texts. We practiced using the comprehension strategy, making connections. During the week we focused on making text to world connections which can be a harder type of connection to make, however the students made many insightful observations which was wonderful to see! In Guided Reading groups students have also been working on their group reading goals.

Our Wellbeing focus was on Teamwork and how we can show this in the playground. The students had an opportunity to work together and role play different scenarios. We also did a team building activity where you had to use communication, trust and teamwork to balance a pencil with a partner. The students did a fantastic job helping each other and practiced their teamwork skills.

In Science we have been looking at constructed and natural changes. What a perfect season to look at change in our environment! We discussed how natural changes may happen from wind, rain or living things growing in the natural environment. We also looked at constructed changes over time around our school.

We are looking forward to another week full of learning and fun activities including our Cross Country run today!

Enjoy your week!
