Selamat siang!

Our second week of Term 2 was full of fun learning experiences and our Sports Fun Day! Although things were run a little differently this year, the sports sessions were a blast! Thank you to Mrs Butterworth and Mrs Embery for organising the day and to all of the parents that came along to support us on the day. It was excellent to see all students giving their best effort in their races.

In Reading sessions across the week, the students were practising their visualising skills. Through a combination of reading and listening to texts, students drew images using the descriptive words and phrases that they heard in the text. We focused on providing evidence from the text to support our visualisation and to explain why we might see characters or settings in a certain way. In Writing, students reviewed the structure of both narrative and persuasive text types. We looked at the Narrative Story Graph and used this to plot different stories sizzling starts, tightening tensions and exciting endings! Students also closely examined persuasive texts and discussed which arguments would be the strongest and why. Later in the week, students mapped out their own persuasive and narrative story ideas using planning templates to organise the structure of their ideas.

We began our unit on Addition and Subtraction last week in maths sessions, with students practising the Vertical Addition strategy to find the total sum of numbers. Students combined their knowledge of place value from last term to assist in setting up their vertical addition sums. Some students practised renaming numbers in the ones and tens columns, while others practised addition with decimals. We also explored the concept of rounding to assist us in making estimated answers to check the reasonableness of our calculations. This week we will focus on subtraction strategies further.

Teachers have explained the Term Two Homework Choice Board to students now as well as the expectations for each week. This choice board can be found on google classroom. We look forward to seeing some great work popping up in our Seesaw Homework folders.

Wishing you a lovely week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
