Enrichment Program

Welcome to the Enrichment Centre!

The Enrichment Program at Mount Pleasant Road comprises a number of practices, programs and activities in and beyond the classroom. We offer a range of exciting enrichment opportunities that cater for all students and abilities, with new options available in 2021. As always, students are being supported and extended in class through differentiated teaching at all levels. Students participate in a variety of cross-curricular studies via our Investigate Create Express program, Junior Rotations and lunch time clubs. Leadership skills are developed in class and through participation in our Student Representative Council. All Year 6 students hold a position of responsibility and leadership through action groups.

In 2020 and 2021 some of our students have been selected by the Department of Education to participate in the Victorian High Ability Program, which involves a 10-week online extension program through Virtual Schools Victoria. Our Tutor Learning Initiative program continues to provide support, extension and enrichment opportunities for a large number of our students.

Further to this, we are offering a range of programs and activities to support the learning and engagement of our students. A couple of the programs available this term include:

Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition (National) - Open to Prep-6

The Dorothea Mackellar is a poetry competition for primary and secondary students across Australia. In 2021, the Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society has chosen the theme “Rich and Rare.” It is an optional theme, so students are encouraged to write about whatever topic sparks their poetic genius! There are no restrictions on what type of poem students can write. Students wanting to participate in this competition can work on their poems at home or during an upcoming lunchtime workshop (date TBC). Teachers will make the submissions at the end of the term. For more information please visit the website: https://www.dorothea.com.au/Categories-Prizes

Australian Maths Trust Challenge (Selected Students Year 5-6)

Selected students in Year 5/6 are presented with four problems that cover a range of mathematical concepts over a three week period. These problems are worked on individually during maths classes as part of the enrichment program. Invitations have been sent to students and families based on student assessment results (including NAPLAN). After the three week period, students’ work will be handed in for marking. Once results are provided, certificates will be presented at a school assembly in Term Three.

At Mount Pleasant Road we pride ourselves on the opportunities we provide for our students to learn at their point of need, in their way. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our Learning Specialist & High Ability Practice leader Erin Bennetts on:
