Today we had 63 students at school, which means that 78% of GEPS were celebrating Eid, the end of Ramadan. We hope families enjoyed gathering and eating together!
For those at school, we had a lovely morning of design, construction, writing and play. Although "normal" classes are not operating today or tomorrow - we are still learning. Looking forward to seeing ALL students back on Monday.
The P&C team organised a Mothers Day Stall last week - and raised almost $1,000. Thank you for their efforts - especially as they are mothers themselves, ensuring that other mothers were recognised last weekend.
Yesterday stage 3 students show-cased their "Grapple" projects. These are projects that they have been working on in a team, exploring an Inquiry question (like How have passenger plights changed over time? or Why are diamonds so strong - and pretty?!)
I was proud of students ability to show their learning; talk about their topic; and feel a sense of achievement in their work.
Homework at GEPS is all about reading - reading aloud; by yourself; to an adult; and reflecting on your reading. The research is clear - the more you read and the more widely you read - the higher your learning in literacy.
Stage 2 and 3 students have also been working on projects as part of homework. This is pre-work, to build topic knowledge before the teachers start the unit of work in class. Look at stage 3 student work on bones - getting ready for a topic all about the human body!
Next week, we have an assembly at 9am in the Hall - we will be celebrating Gold Badge for term 2 as well as launching our new READ UP! programme, focusing on the importance of reading across our whole school community. Please join us (COVID-safe sign-in on arrival).
