Specialist News

Term 1

Feature News - From the Art room

As the term slowly rolls to a close, Junior and Senior students have worked on completing and refining their projects and begun uploading their portfolio tasks across their specialist areas. In Visual arts, we have continued to learn about the art world, both from a historical, philosophical as well as economical point of view. We discussed and investigated the question of: What makes art so valuable (in monetary and non-monetary terms). The eye-watering sums paid for famous works of art – caused us to ponder: What makes a painting good and how do we put a value on things. Junior Students viewed the fictional story of Mona Lisa, who had enough of being famous and took herself on an adventure. In response to this we created Mona Lisa artworks that showed Mona in a new place and time enjoying herself. An art history lesson with a difference. Students were encouraged to show imagination, creativity and empathy as well as a suspension of disbelief in bringing their pictures and stories to life. A different cohort of Junior students started their landscape paintings featuring Uluru in the distance. Senior students continued their extensive multi-media Klimt collages. Collaboratively across all year levels we have worked on display items for Term 2.
