From the Principal

You Can't STOP the Music!

On Monday we received a FREE piano for our school. We just had to pay for delivery and tuning. Our piano is a Dresden piano, "Drina" was manufactured in Germany in the 1890's and later imported to Australia.

"Drina" is a piano for our school playground!! She has a lovely blanket and our seniors in LS2 ensure she is snug and warm overnight and ready for action each day. Our piano is well loved and each day it is wonderful to hear our very talented children enjoying playing with "Drina". Not just children, teachers too. We certainly have a lot of talented people at SFS.

So if you are dropping off your child or collecting them after school, do drop by and check out, "Drina" and play us a song.

When 'Drina" needs to retire, we hope to get another member of the piano family for SFS. This is a great way to be part of the "PREPS" initiative. A program for recycled educational pianos for school. More than 2,500 pianos will be dumped in Australia this year. In the next 8 years the number dumped would fill the MCG! we are so glad to have saved the beautiful, "Drina" so we can continue to enjoy her beautiful tone and music at SFS.

Sausages are SIZZLING at BUNNING Cranboune this Saturday 1 May!!

Please support our P&F and buy a sausage. Let friends and neighbours know too. Spread the word on social media and lets turn this into another amazing fundraiser!

If you can help please contact the P&F today.

A BIG thanks to our P&F for a great start to the year and to all our families who have supported their efforts. All your effort helps our children and our school. We are able to get some extra special things as a result of your commitment. Thanks to all supporting SFS.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2021 for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be held on Tuesday 11 May, Wednesday 12 May and Thursday 13 May 2021.

All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week, catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 14 May 2021.

Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year.

If your child is eligible for support due to disability or an exemption, you should discuss this with his/her teacher prior to the tests. Parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the Principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a withdrawal form. These forms are available at the school.

If your child is eligible for an exemption or if you wish to withdraw your child from the 2021 NAPLAN, please contact the school by Monday 3 May.

Winter Uniform

From next week, all children should be wearing our winter uniform.   I thank all parents who have got organised and taken the time and effort to ensure their child/children have the correct items of the uniform for school days and sport days. They look smart.

Last week, I contacted Beleza regarding issues with uniform stock. They apologised for stock shortages that parents may have experienced lately. They explained that the most significant shortages are in the smaller size ranges across the winter uniform, particularly for the knitted V-neck jumper.  They have had some significant delays particularly with the knitted V-neck jumper, in production as a result of the COVID impacts on their overseas production. They have now been air-freighted to Melbourne and will get embroided and will be available in store in 2-3 weeks. If you have an order the retail staff will contact you as soon as they are in store. I have been assured that all standard items of our uniform will be in stock in the next two weeks in time for our school photos on the 18 May.

Please do continue to inform teachers if you have an item on order. If you experience any further issues, please contact the school, so we can follow up with the Beleza.

Please also know we have a second hand uniform shop operated by our P&F on certain Friday's and all items are $5 each. This may be of great benefit.
