F-6 Music

Foundation & Grade 1 Music

All Foundation and Grade One students now have their Music Satchels. Every week, these will go home with Music news to share. Parents, check your child’s school bag every Friday for their Music Satchel and encourage them to share their learning with you.

Foundation students have been consolidating TEMPO. Can your child tell you what TEMPO means? Encourage your child to describe the two different pictures on their worksheet sheet and to explain what they both demonstrate. Can parents and children identify two songs with different tempos?

Write down the titles of the songs and we can share them in class.

Students in Grade One continue to play percussion instruments and read rhythmic notation scores. Students have covered the notes: ta and ti-ti, and the rest za. Parents, ask your child to demonstrate these different notes.

GRADES 2-6 MUSIC & CHOIR

Welcome to Term 2!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Easter break and feels refreshed to take on the new school term with gusto!

Grade 2 Music Lessons

To link in with ANZAC Day, we read the book ‘Lest We Forget’ written by Kerry Brown. There was a lot of rich discussion that came from this book – if you have it at home, I’d recommend reading it again with your children. Students also learnt more about the bugle calls heard in the commemoration services. We discussed when and why The Last Post, Reveille and The Rouse are played.

Grades 2-6 - Music Share

'Music Share' allows for students to communicate talents which their peers (and I) may otherwise not be aware of. It is a fabulous learning opportunity for the performer and the audience.

Below are photos of students who participated in ‘Music Share’ and performed during Music Lessons. Here are some examples of the talents we were graced with:

  • Making their own ‘mash-ups’ of songs and singing them English AND Chinese (without instrumental backing!)
  • Garage Band projects
  • Song Maker compositions (using Chrome Music Lab)
  • Playing their instruments / demonstrating how sound is made / how to clean and care for the instrument

Grades 3/4 Excursion - Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall

Students in Grades 3/4 are fortunate to be experiencing the live music from Prokofiev’s ‘Peter and the Wolf’ by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra next Thursday 6th May.

‘Peter and the Wolf’ is a classic introduction for the young – and young at heart – to the sights and sounds of a symphony orchestra. The irreverent story of Peter and his menagerie of animals has resonated deeply with generations of children, and this special MSO production has been developed to bring the imaginative world of music alive for young audiences, with the addition of puppets.

It might be a wolf eat duck world out there, but this production of Prokofiev’s story shows us that with enough help from their friends, a boy and a bird can work together to catch a wolf and save the day!

As stated on Compass, there has been a slight change of plans to the Grade 3/4 excursion. Students will not be visiting the National Gallery of Victoria after the MSO performance as the Gallery is not accepting bookings for school groups. Instead, to link in with the Grade 3/4 curriculum, students will be walking to the Shrine of Remembrance and viewing monuments of relevance along the way.

On the day of the excursion students will be required to:

  • Wear full school uniform (including hair accessories which must match hair colour or the school uniform)
  • If forecast for rain, bring a hooded waterproof coat and wear waterproof shoes (water proofer spray can be purchased from the supermarket),
  • Bring a light backpack with snack / fruit, lunch, water bottle (water bottles can be refilled during the day). Please note that students will be responsible for carrying their own backpack during the day.
  • Carry personal asthma puffers (for known asthmatics) in their own bag.

A reminder that parent permission and payment for the excursion is due today - Wednesday 28th April.

School Choir

Choir rehearsals will continue this term on Wednesdays from 12.50pm (lunch-eating time) until 1.30pm.

Now that commitment notices have been returned, I'd like to focus on our first performance - and having students accessing the Showbie folder will help get us there! The folder contains vocal warm-up activities, song lyrics, backing tracks, assistance with harmonies etc.

There are some choir members who have not yet logged in to the ‘2021 Choir Club! 🎵’ Showbie folder. The code is FWD34. Please ensure that your child has logged on so that they receive the most updated Choir information. Thank you!

Have a great week!

Yours in harmony,
