Classroom News

Grade 1 & 2

Welcome back!

We are so excited to be back at school and are ready to learn!

The students have settled back into school quickly and are engaged in class.

This week the year 1 and 2 students are visiting Healesville Sanctuary, we would like to thank  all the extra parents that have come with us and made this excursion possible. We have been looking at Australian habitats and animals in their homes. We have planned a really wonderful unit this term that we plan to showcase with our friends and families at the end of term.

We would also like to remind our year 1 families  that the PMP program starts this Friday, again many thanks to those parents who have volunteered, as this program would not be able to continue without the many parents helpers.

This fortnight our focus in reading has been to track our thinking as we read and unpack our sticky notes. We have been focusing on new vocabulary,  visualising and making connections.

In writing, we have been looking at the writing trait of organisation, and following the writer’s  process  to write a recount. In the coming weeks we will be looking at information texts and the interesting words we use in our non fiction writing.

In maths we have been looking at measurement, mapping and directional language. We have had some fun “jumping over creeks” and exploring direction using Beebots. Next week we will be exploring addition.

We are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead.

Reminders:

*All students will require a hat till 30th April. Please keep school hats in bags,as students are required to wear a hat when UVindex levels are 3 or above.

* Please ensure your child has an art smock at school, as this term students are painting during lessons.

*Students are encouraged to take levelled books home every night for reading. Classroom teachers indicate what level your child is reading based on a one - one assessment

Please do not encourage your child to take higher book levels home as this does not help their reading.

Lastly, please note parents are still unable to enter the building unless organised with your child's teacher.

Thank you,

Year 1 and Year 2 Teachers
