Grade 3 & 4

What a great start to the Term we have had in the ¾ level! Students have returned from the Term 1 break refreshed and ready for a big term ahead. Next week on Thursday we are heading to the city to watch the MSO and visit the War Memorial. A big thank-you to the wonderful Mrs Shacklock for organising this excursion.

Reading

This term we are focusing on non-fiction texts. We will be learning about key reading strategies for non-fiction texts so we encourage families to engage in reading non-fiction materials at home. A great website is Kids News https://www.kidsnews.com.au/

We will also continue to focus on our sticky-notes, and how we can use these as one strategy to track our thinking as we read a non-fiction text.

Writing

In Writing, our whole class focus has been on narrative texts. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at the importance of text structure and be practicing sizzling starts and exciting endings.

Maths

In Maths, we are beginning to explore a range of addition and subtraction strategies. Over the next few weeks students will experiment with the jump, split and compensation strategies. We have also looked at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and even 1000!

 Integrated

This term in Integrated Studies we will be learning about landforms. Students will explore how landforms are formed and what part weathering and erosion play in forming a landform. In the second half of the term, students will be working in groups on a project to explore how issues like erosion around the school could be solved.
