Music

Wow, we have reached the end of Term 1 already and what a term it has been.
Instrumental music lessons and ensemble rehearsals are well and truly in the swing of things now which is so nice after last year. Every one is working hard for the Autumn Concert next term. All ensembles will be showcased at this concert so be sure to put it in your diary.
For any student who is interested in music lessons, there are still places available. If you feel you can’t afford a new instrument, we have some special instruments available to hire from the school. We are especially looking for students to play French horn, tuba, euphonium, double bass or oboe. Students can be from any year level and it is never to late to start.
I would like to thank all the students and families who have been so welcoming and supportive towards me in my new role here at Bairnsdale Secondary College. While Term 1 has been challenging, I am looking forward to working with the students and staff at the school and hope to meet many music families soon.
I hope everyone has a great Easter break and would like to remind students to get their instruments out over the holidays and have a bit of a play. See you next term.
Junior Band
The Junior band has now had four rehearsals. They rehearse on Tuesday lunchtime and it is great to see all the students with their new instruments. The students are working hard on pieces to perform at the Autumn Concert next term. They already have a number of pieces which they add to each week.
Ensembles
We would like to remind families that it is compulsory for students who learn an instrument to be in an ensemble. This is partly due to the way we are funded for instrumental music but also because ensemble performance enables students to obtain much greater musical skills. They learn to listen to each other, play together, play in tune, create good friendships and develop confidence. Rolls are taken at all rehearsals so if a student cannot make it to a rehearsal, a note needs to be sent with an explanation.
