Unit 3 Outdoor and Environmental Studies Alpine Expedition
Due to wild weather the format of our Alpine Expedition changed significantly last week. Students visited Falls Creek and the surrounding Alpine High Plains and huts with the added comfort and safety of warm showers and beds in Omeo each evening. Students explored society’s relationships with this unique environment from various perspectives, visiting the Falls Creek museum, a local tourism manager, and various recreational sites.
The weather cleared somewhat later in the week enabling students to undertake a shorter overnight hike along the famous Razorback to Federation Hut and Mount Feathertop. Students endured rain in the last hour of the hike but luckily were able to dry and warm up in the hut before an early night. Students awoke on the last day of the expedition to sunny skies and their first actual views of the surrounding country that week. Students celebrated their efforts from the summit of Feathertop before hiking back to the buses and home for the weekend.
The trip was a huge success and students would like to thank Tom and Miss Poynton for their support and encouragement while away.
