Building works
Today has been full of excitement with cranes and semi trucks arriving at the College. The senior hub has seen an existing portable spun around and the arrival of a new portable building onto the campus. This addition brings 4 new classrooms to the senior hub .
Over the holiday period sections of 'B' block on Wallace Street will be demolished. The demolition does not include the Wallace Street Library or Boucher Hall. An additional portable will arrive on the McKean Street campus for the Science wing.
The University of Melbourne – Maths Competition
What is it?
The University of Melbourne’s Annual Maths challenge is designed to test your problem-solving skills, your mathematical understandings and your ability to think critically.
There are 3 different levels:
- Junior (Years 7 & 8)
- Intermediate (Years 9 & 10)
- Senior (Years 11 & 12)
When is it?
The University of Melbourne’s Annual Maths competition will be held on the 5th of May 2021. This will be completed at school, during school hours. Participants will receive 2-3 hours to complete the competition questions. There are approximately 5-10 questions.
Why do it?
This is a chance to challenge yourself and test your mathematical skills. Participants also have the chance to win a cash prize of up to $250 for 1st place.
I’m interested, now what?
You will need to email your name and grade to SNA@BairnsdaleSC.vic.edu.au ASAP. You will then receive a practise test. You will have until Friday the 23rd April to complete the tasks. You will need to hand it into Miss Narramore (her office is in between W14 & W15) before the end of week 1 (Term 2).
How do I complete the practise questions?
You will have the school holidays to complete the practise questions. NO calculators or devices are allowed to be used. You will need to provide your working out and be able to explain how you solved the questions.
Then what?
Miss Narramore will grade your work and make contact about upcoming practise sessions and further information.
*PLEASE NOTE*
Students must be able to answer at least 4 questions correctly to be accepted as part of the maths competition.
