Triple M: Mental Maths Moment 

 

Welcome back to Triple M: the Mental Maths Moment!  

 

You have entered an exciting new area, specifically for our budding mathematicians! Each fortnight there will be an engaging mental Maths problem that you can discuss and work out with your family members. The first student to email me the correct answer will earn a point into the end of term prize draw. 

 

Thank you to all the students who emailed last week. It was fantastic to see so many of you explaining how you got the answer! 

 

Answers to Week 8's Question:

 

Junior

  • The speaker had $120 to begin with.

 

Senior

  • To begin with, A had 26 tractors, B had 14 tractors and C has 8 tractors.

Junior question [Yr 7-9]

 

Ten people enter a room one at a time. Each new entrant shakes hands with each person already in the room. How many handshakes occur?

 

Senior Question [Yr10-12]

 

If 1² + 2² + 3² + … + 9² + 10² = 385, what is the sum of 2² + 4² + 6² + … + 18² + 20²?
