Curriculum

Welcome back to Term 2, we hope that all families had a restful and relaxing holiday break. We are very excited to get started on what will be a big, fun filled term.

This term in literacy we will be continuing to practise reading strategies that we learned in Term One, as well as focusing on retelling important events in stories such as the beginning, middle and end of stories and the problems and solutions in stories to help our comprehension of the stories we read. We will be continuing to practise our handwriting with the help of Casey Caterpillar, she shows us the different shapes that we need to use to form different letters. We will also continue to practise our writing through personal recounts, such as out weekend recount and will also begin to look at information reports. One our favourite parts of the day is meeting our new codes (phonograms), so we can’t wait to continue to meet and learn new codes this term.

In Mathematics, we will be continuing with practising using our subitise eyes, where we look at a small collection of objects and find out how many there are without counting by ones. We will be exploring place value, looking at how numbers are made up, problem solving where we will find lots of different answers to one problem. We will also be exploring length where we will be comparing objects that are shorter and longer, probability where we will look at the chance of different events happening and mass, where will be comparing what is heavier and lighter and ordering these. We have lots of fun, hands on learning to explore all of these areas which we are very excited about.

Our Guided Inquiry topic this term is ‘Our Sustainable World’, where we will engaging in the concept of sustainability, looking at how to take care of our earth.

We will be visiting the Library again this term, which was a consistent highlight for all students in Term One. A reminder to families that we visit the Library each week on a Wednesday, so students are able to return their book and borrow a new book each week. Please ensure students have their Library bag as they will need this to borrow a book from the Library.

We hope you all have a fantastic week!

Jessica Tossell, Erin Dawson and Brooke Henwood
