Community Spotlight: Year 1/2 Community
In the Year 1/2 community, we have been focusing on different emotions and reflecting on a time we have felt that way. We have acted out the emotions such as feeling excited, grumpy and sad by using our facial expressions and body language. We have discussed how we can recognise when someone is feeling a certain emotion by looking at their body language and facial expressions.
I felt excited when I got Maggie my dog. – Jack
I felt shy when I first met my mum’s friend – Shreyan
I felt excited when I got my cat – Jasper
Better Buddies Program
Last week we began our Better Buddies Program. Each Wednesday a group of Year 5 Students will walk with me to Kingsville Kindergarten.
The aim of the program is to build the leadership skills required to be a ‘Better Buddy’ as well as build meaningful relationships with our local kindergarten. It was so beautiful to see the children interact with the kindergarten children. They did an amazing job at initiating play and engaging all the kindergarten kids in activities.
The children enjoyed reflecting on the visit. It was wonderful to chat about it on the walk back to school.
Eamon: I liked how lots of the kids were very open to us. They weren't shy at all! It was nice that they looked up to us and wanted to do the activities with us! It was nice to see them getting along with each other and doing a really good job at sharing with one another.
Samuel: I liked how they were really fun to play with. I enjoyed playing tag with them and reading books to them. I liked pushing the children on the swing, it was nice that when I started playing with one, they all wanted to get on the swing with me too!
Sophie: I really enjoyed taking care and playing with the little kids! I really loved how they all had really big personalities. My favourite part of the session was getting to know the kinder kids. They told me things like their favourite colours and what they like doing. I also enjoyed playing all together with all the kids. We all played with playdough together and even played on the swing!
Izzie: I really liked playing with all the little kids. They are so funny and loved playing games like Duck, Duck, Goose. It was nice to see that they are happy to play all together and wait their turn.
Kingston: I liked how the kindergarten kids were really friendly and wanted to have a good time. They were never upset or sad, they were always so happy to play with us. It made my heart leap in my chest!
I look forward to taking the rest of the students throughout the rest of the term.
