Forest School

It's hard to document all the fun, learning and adventure occurring during our Forest School sessions but here's a snapshot (or 20!). More tools have been introduced over the last few weeks, along with safety training, and we used them for many different purposes. We used secateurs to cut grasses to make cordage, an indigenous technique for making rope or twine. We continued to practise our flint and steel technique to make sparks. We practised using the long-awaited Opinel knives ready for whittling. We used cooking tools to make mud and sand pies for afternoon tea - delicious!
The photos show children exploring structures, engineering ramps and seesaws, engaging in teamwork, climbing trees, interacting with nature, intently focussing on learning new skills and remembering how much fun a sandpit can be! Even the Grade 5/6s!
Many thanks to the families who have already donated cooking implements, the children are already loving them! I would be happy to receive a few more second-hand baking tins, cupcake tins, wooden and metal cooking implements (wooden spoons, spatulas, tongs etc - not cutlery) for nature play.
I am also seeking green wood for whittling projects. Please get in touch if you are pruning your fruit trees and can donate tree branches about 20 - 30cms long and at least 3+ centimetres in diameter. If we don't use donated wood for whittling, I will put it aside for fire activities later in the term. It won't go to waste!
Thanks!
Sarah.
