Mother’s Day Stall  - Friday 12 May 2023, Primary Verandah, Leopard Tce

It is that time of year again – Mother’s Day is fast approaching! Our Friends of Primary Mother’s Day Stall will be held tomorrow, Friday 12 May

We have a huge selection of beautiful gifts available and we are sure that our students will find something perfect for their loved ones at the stall. The Friends of Primary have been working hard to find a range of wonderful gifts for mothers, grandmothers, aunties, carers, and special friends.

Gifts are priced at $5, $10 and $15 and all funds raised will go towards P&F and Friends of Primary Group initiatives. Primary Students will be taken to the stall during the day by their teachers and will have their teachers and parent volunteers help them with their shopping.

If students could please bring cash to school in a named envelope which will be collected by their class teacher at the start of the day. They will be handed back to the student when attending the Stall and any change will be returned for safekeeping. Children will take their change and gifts home at the end of the day.

We can’t wait to see the big smiles and excitement as the students choose their special gifts in preparation for Mother’s Day!

International Food Safari

Our Year 9 Business and Entrepreneurship and Food Technology students are preparing for their market stall day on Wednesday 17 May. Treat your taste buds by being able to visit 7 different countries in one lunch hour to try their food.

Pre orders close this Friday 12 May, but cash purchases can be made on the day. Both sweet and savoury foods will be on offer (e.g donuts, spaghetti) and approx. $5 should be enough to purchase something. Primary students would still require their Morning Tea and Lunch. Come along to the Middle Years Courtyard at lunchtime on Wednesday to experience our young entrepreneurs in action. The business venture is for everyone in Clayfield College, from our young primary students through to the teachers.

Student Achievements

Last year we opened the competition ‘Write 4 Fun’ to students and had a number of entries. We are pleased to advise that students Kate Shaw (Year 2) and Zoe Peters (Year 4) were finalists and have had their work published in the resulting book ‘Unleashed’.

The Winter Wind

by Kate Shaw (2P)

The wind blows from head to toes.

The winter breeze blows past my knees.

The trees bustle,

The leaves rustle.

I love the winter days in every way.

The Invisible Girl

by Zoe Peters (4O)

“Night Alexis” called her mum as she climbed into bed. Her tummy rumbled. Glancing around the room she spotted a strawberry Wizz Fizz on her desk. She couldn’t remember where it had come from but it was just what she needed. As Alexis dipped the blue lollipop into the sherbet, she noticed specs of dark green.

“That is a strange colour for a strawberry flavour” she thought. When the fizz went down, her body started to disintegrate. Her head felt dizzy and her body seemed to float. Alexis thought she must be getting sleepy, turned off the light and went to bed. She was about to find out a very unusual thing.

In the morning, Alexis went to the toilet and as she was washing her hands, she froze in fright. In the mirror was a floating nightie with bunnies. It was hers! Shocked, she realised that she was invisible! When she took her clothes off, the invisibleness started to fade.

“Alexis, we need to leave in twenty minutes for school” screamed her mum. Peering in the mirror, Alexis noticed her body coming back. First her head, then her hands and then her legs. Within two minutes, she was back again! Alexis quickly put on her uniform and as she was tying up her shoelaces, something caught her eye. A Wizz Fizz packet lay empty beside her bed. Suddenly, she realised that it had invisible powder inside it. Quickly, Alexis grabbed her wallet and put it in her school bag. On the way to school she was going to buy more of these magical Wizz Fizzes. Her adventures were just beginning.

Congratulations to Kate and Zoe on this wonderful achievement.
