Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

OPEN NIGHT

It was fantastic to see so many parents, siblings and other family members at school on Tuesday afternoon/evening. The students really love having their family visit their classrooms to show them what they have been learning and to talk about their favourite aspects of their school life. We hope everyone enjoyed something to eat and the various activities around the school. Congratulations to the winners of the 4x $50 Coles Myer Vouchers.

Thank-you also to all parents, grandparents and friends for supporting our Book Fair. This is a good fund-raiser for the school and any funds raised go back to our school resources and programs.

EDUCATION WEEK/EDUCATION SUPPORT DAY

We celebrate Education week with our Open Night but also we celebrate the work of our Education Support staff. Education support staff are integral members of our Teaching and Learning, Administration and Targeted programs teams. On behalf of our Teaching team we extend our gratitude to our wonderful Education Support team. We held a special Morning Tea on Tuesday in their honour.

TERRIFIC TV DAY OUT OF UNIFORM DAY - THURSDAY 25TH MAY

Next Thursday the JSC have organised an out of uniform day. Come dressed in your favourite tv show or Movie character for a gold coin donation. If you don't have a costume, no worries come out of uniform. All funds raised will be donated to The Salvation Army.

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

We are very fortunate to have Sunny who is Mr Kluver’s dog, fully trained and qualified as part of the animal assisted therapy. Sunny was introduced to some lucky students this week. Mr Kluver, Jess White and Tonya Ferguson are trained handlers for this program which is a requirement. You will have noticed a compass notice which requires your permission for your child to participate in the program if the need arises. If you have any concerns about your child spending time with Sunny as part of their tailored counselling regimen please contact the school.

‘A therapy animal is an animal a therapist uses to help their clients connect with and be involved in their therapy. Therapy animals usually belong to the therapist or therapy organisation. They generally only have contact with the client during the therapy session and don’t stay with the client after the session is finished. They’re generally used to help the client get the most out of their therapy.

Therapists use different approaches, techniques and equipment to engage their clients and help carry out an intervention. Many therapists who work with people with disability may use therapy animals in therapy sessions.

Involvement of a therapy animal is simply another tool a therapist can use as part of their program.’

CROSS COUNTRY

Warrnambool Primary School did a wonderful job at the District Cross Country last week at Reid Oval. It was a very strong team with five students now making their way to the Divisional Cross Country today at Reid Oval. We wish the students all the very best.

Special mention must go to Asher Dawe for his first place in the 12 years boy category. Thanks to Cherine Owen and John Pattison for organising and assisting on the day.

REPORT WRITING DAY/ PUBLIC HOLIDAY FRIDAY 9TH and MONDAY 12TH JULY 2023

Warrnambool Primary School will be closed to students on Friday 9 June 2023 for assessment and reporting purposes. It backs onto the long weekend King’s Birthday- which is an Australian Public Holiday on Monday 12 June 2023. Please note that ‘Their Care’ will operate on Friday 9 June 2023 for the Pupil Free Day but will be closed for the public holiday.

NATIONAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK - SUNDAY 14TH to SUNDAY 21ST MAY

Road safety awareness should be a daily priority for everyone, but this week/month we are emphasising its importance even more...

As we navigate our daily lives, it is crucial to prioritize road safety for our children! Whether they are walking, biking, or riding in a vehicle, it is important that we, as caregivers and enforcers, emphasise the importance of safe practices. Leading by example is key, as children often emulate the behaviours of their parents. Let's work together to ensure that our children are protected on the roads and that we are promoting safe practices daily.

Have a wonderful weekend!
