Relieving Deputy Principal's Report
Mrs Alice Wigny
Hello Everyone,
It has been another busy fortnight at Oak Flats Public School with our Mid-South Cross Country, Preschool interviews, Mother’s Day Stall, South Coast Netball and Union trials, NAP Science trial for Year 6 and continuation of the LAD program for Years K-2.
Tell Them From Me
Over the next two weeks our students in Years 4 - 6 will be completing the Tell Them From Me survey, conducted by the Department of Education. All students in Years 4 - 6, will be able to answer questions on their sense of belonging at school, student voice and celebrating student success. A note has been sent home, outlining the survey in greater detail. Next Semester, students, staff, and the community, also have an option to complete a survey and have their voices heard.
Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is in Term 2, Week 6. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for 2023 is, 'Be A Voice.’ At Oak Flats we are committed to fostering respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and will be acknowledging Reconciliation Week in Term 2, Week 6 through a variety of activities for our Preschool through to Year 6 students.
P&C Mother’s Day Stall
Last Wednesday our P&C hosted their annual Mother’s Day stall in the hall. Students from Preschool to Year 6 purchased a gift for their mum, grandma, nan and/or special person. It was a huge success and I can definitely say the students enjoyed the shopping experience. I would like to sincerely thank the P&C for their efforts and time in holding this school event and a big 'thank you' to our parents and carers for providing your child the opportunity to purchase a gift for that special person in their life.
Walk Safely To School Day
Friday, 19 May is Walk Safely to School Day. On this day we are encouraging any child who can walk safely all or part of the way to school with an adult to do so. Please emphasise the message which is: "Until they're ten, children must always hold an adult's hand when crossing the road." During the day teachers will be conducting a very short lesson on walk safely to school and will be issuing stick on tattoos for those children who walk to school safely.
Attendance
With the onset of winter and viruses that are running rampant, we understand that you may need to keep your child at home. Justified reasons for student absences may include:
· being sick or having an infectious disease
· having an unavoidable medical appointment
· being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
· exceptional or urgent family circumstances.
We appreciate parents and carers contacting the school to explain absences within 7 days.
Have a great fortnight!
