Preschool Report
Music, music, music!
Music has been a big interest lately at Preschool! The children have explored sound and beat with our drums. The different instruments shared by Mrs K, our music teacher, always spark the children's curiosity. Mrs K is a very inspirational teacher who has the group engaged in songs, actions and dance for 30 minutes each week for both groups, Bilima and Gurawara. The song list includes some old favourites and some new songs including some from other cultures and languages. It is wonderful to see the children so excited and engaged during these music sessions! It also seems that this interest in music has inspired children to share their favourite songs, to bring an instrument from their home which includes drums from countries around the world.
We use song to start the day, to say good morning in a different language, to learn about the days of the week and to start to know our left from our right with "The Left and Right" song. Music strengthens the children listening skills and breaks up mat time which adds to the children's ability to focus. Through music we can also learn about tempo, rhythm, beat, song and this can lead to creative exploration. Recently the children have been interested in triangles and tambourines and can be heard applying their knowledge of the songs learned with Mrs K to their creative exploration. It seems like next we will have a percussion orchestra!
