Debating team success

This year, the debating teams have participated in the DAV debates at Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. I am a part of the C-Grade team. Throughout the year we have debated topics such as “That medical professionals should not be allowed to strike”, “That students should have to complete compulsory voting hours every year”, “That compulsory voting should be abolished in Australia”, “That you should have a license to use the internet” and “That drones should be banned”. A few of these topics were secret topics, meaning that we are not given the topic until an hour before the debate. 

As a team, we won 4 of the 5 debates this year! During our last debate we were involved in a “bubble debate”, meaning we were debating against the other top team in Ivanhoe! We finished top of the ladder, so we will be involved in the playoff finals, which involve the top teams from each area of Victoria. The playoffs will be hosted by Northcote High School on 30 August.
