Look through the VET subjects on offer in our three VET handbooks (links below) and submit your application form to our VET Team Lou (Louisa Renard) and Booma (Karen Burgess) in Room M11 or via email this term or by the end of Week 1, Term 3 (Fri 14th Jul) at the latest

FAQs…

What is VET?

VET subjects are hands-on subjects run at various nearby schools and TAFEs– usually on a Wednesday or Thursday afternoon.

 

Who can study a VET subject?

  • Year 10, VCE or VCE-VM students
  • A VET subject may be studied for 1 or 2 years
  • A VET subject can contribute to your ATAR if you’re studying VCE
  • NOTE: You cannot start a VET subject in Year 12

Which VET Subjects are available?

There are a WIDE RANGE of VET subjects in areas such as:

  • The Arts & Media (Screen and Media, Fashion, Games Design, Visual Arts, Dance, Sound Production, Music Performance, Design, and more)
  • Trades (Carpentry, Engineering, Electro, Automotive, Plumbing, Tiling, Bricklaying and more)
  • Science (Laboratory Skills, Animal Care, Equine Studies, Agriculture, Horticulture and more)
  • Health, Education and Community Services (Allied Health Assistance, Early Childhood Education and Care, Community Services)
  • Sport and Recreation (Sport & Rec, Tourism or Events)
  • Hospitality (Cookery, Hospitality, or both – dual certificate)
  • Business (Business, Small Business or Events)
  • Beauty (Beauty Services, Make-Up, or Hair Salon Assistance)
  • Musical Instrument Making
  • Furniture Making

How do I Apply?

(1) Choose a VET subject from one of our 3 VET partners’ handbooks – must be a suitable location and class time:

  • Location: Choose a VET subject in a location you will reliably travel to each week all year
  • Class Time: to fit with our timetable, the VET class must be:
    • 2024 Y10/ VCE students: Wed or Thu afternoons
    • 2024 VCE-VM students: Wed or Thu anytime
    • All students – we will consider after hours class times.
  • NMVC Handbook, Northern Melbourne VET Cluster
  • Melbourne Polytechnic Handbook: 
  • IMVC Handbook, Inner Melbourne VET Cluster (note this is their 2023 handbook, 2024 due out soon)  

(2) Submit a VET application form to Lou or Booma:

  • VET application forms DUE by end of Week 1, Term 3 at the latest (Fri 14th July)
  • VET Application Forms can be found on TEAMS, or on Compass [Community (2 people icon) > School Documentation> VET]
  • Before you submit your VET application form you will need:
    1. Your USI – your Unique Student Identifier – get or retrieve it from www.usi.gov.au 
    2. Note: You no longer need the sub-school staff to sign your VET form, they will review application after they've been submitted.
