NHS Aero Club

First test flight on Merri Park

NHS Aero Club had its first test flight of their plane Mantis-1. At the hands of Rufus A. the plane took off flew a lap of the NHS oval and landed. When Chris D. piloted the plane, he took off completed half a lap of the oval then a stall sent the plane crashing into the ground, breaking the propeller and slightly damaging the fuselage.

The team concluded that the plane motor was overpowered, and the controls were too sensitive. They plan to repair the plane and continue building to create a fully autonomous plane. The flight was successful as the team learned lots about assembly, aerodynamics, and piloting an aircraft. The Club meets every Friday lunchtime, feel free to drop in!
