R U OK Day - Recap

 

On Thursday 8 September, Northcote High School celebrated R U OK? Day- a day to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and start a conversation with those who may be struggling. There were a range of activities throughout the day- coordinated by Jess Kruske, Ollie, the year 10 Total Wellbeing class, together with members of the wellbeing team. 

 

Some of these events included:

- ‘Cupcake and Conversation’ stall where the Year 10 students role played how to have the “R U OK? conversation”.

- Collaborative art piece 

- Badge making in the library

- Table tennis in the GMR

- Film (Inside Out) viewing in the hall

 

Feedback from the students about the day included- “My highlight from R U OK? Day was playing table tennis/running table tennis”, “My highlight was seeing people enjoy the cupcakes”, “My highlight was eating the cupcake and helping other people feel better”, “My highlight was seeing people enjoy cupcakes and helping ensure that people are okay.”

 

It was a fun and connecting day for all, including the staff who enjoyed a kit kat, a chat, and a cuppa.

Dental Van- Smile Squad

We are excited to announce that Smile Squad (Dental Van) will be coming to Northcote High School to deliver FREE dental care to the students in term 4, 2022 through to term 1, 2023. Smile Squad is a Victorian Government program that offers free dental care to all Victorian government school students. The friendly Smile Squad dental team visits schools to provide a free annual dental health examination and free follow-up treatment as needed.

Students have received a consent form to take home, which will need to be signed and returned to their sub school office by TUESDAY 4 October at the latest. Years 7-10 please return the form to the JUNIOR sub school office and Years 11-12 please return the form to the SENIOR sub school office. Keep an eye out early next term for more information regarding appointments.

 

 

Art Space- Group

Headspace Greensborough are excited to offer a one-off art session this Thursday 15 September, 4:00pm to 5:30pm-located at L1/78 Main Street, Greensborough VIC 3088. Young people aged 12 to 25 are encouraged to join to explore self-expression through art and to meet other young people. Registrations for this session are essential, please fill out this form: art space @ headspace Greensborough

 

 

Mental Health Week- 9-17th October

Early term 4 we will celebrate Mental Health Week to raise awareness and shine a spotlight on individual and community mental health and wellbeing. We will have some activities throughout the week during class, recess, and lunch. Keep an eye and ear out early next term for more information.

Support over the Holidays

The holidays are almost here and although they are often seen as the happiest time of the year, they can be a hard time for a lot of people. Please reach out to your friends or family during the holidays and remember there is support available from other agencies.
