Year 7 Cubist Study

Still Life colour explosion

Taking influence from the cubist work of Juan Gris (Cubists used flat shapes and sometimes used collage in their paintings to suggest real objects) students created images where they were instructed to pretend that they had X Ray vision and see through the objects they were painting. They broke their objects into shapes and painted each specific section initially in primary colours and then the background using secondary colours. Students responded extremely positively to the process and were really pleased with the final product. And so they should be. What a colour explosion!
