Valuable job interview practice

Our Year 10 students have spent much of Term 3 Connect time looking at job advertisements, selecting a role and preparing a letter of application and resume.  This week they have the opportunity to participate in the Real Industry Job Interview (RIJI) program and will be attending an interview at the Darebin Arts Centre with an employer.  The RIJI program wouldn’t happen without our local employers volunteering their time to offer our students this wonderful experience. Thanks also the Year 10 Program Leaders, Connect tutors and the staff at the Inner North Local Learning and Employment Network.  So many people in our community have worked hard to provide our students with this opportunity.

Morrisbly assessement meetings

This week our Year 9 students who completed their Morrisby assessment will be meeting with an external Careers Practitioner to go over their results and discuss this in their own context.  Students will receive a booklet outlining the information from the assessment and how this might link to their future career plans.  Remember that things constantly move and change, and the assessment is a great starting point but not the ‘answer’ to your career questions.  Thanks to Liz Harris and Jasmine Vo from our administration team for assisting us for the week.  For more information about the Morrisby program in schools, head to https://ceav.vic.edu.au/my-career-insights/resources-for-parents-families/

Year 12 classes wrapping up

It’s hard to believe that our Year 12 students are already in their final week of classes.  I have been chatting to many students over the past few months and working with them on transition planning.  This is one of the best parts of the job – and it’s incredibly humbling and exciting to see the breadth of talent and interests amongst the cohort.  Many students plan to pursue further studies at university or TAFE, and quite a few students will be commencing training through apprenticeships next year.  A reminder that students can contact Booma in the careers office or make an appointment if they need any assistance at all over the coming months.
