Art Club

'Houses' project is taking shape

Art Club has been asked to design and create a piece of public art to be installed in the C Block outdoor recreational space. The brief asks that we focus on promoting and engaging the NHS community on the role of the 4 school ‘Houses’.  Merri, Plenty, Cooper and Sumner.

While we have been given an open brief, it is suggested that we explore the history/origins of these titles and interpret them in a way that will be visually engaging and educative.

It is envisaged that the final artwork will consist of four panels each measuring. 2m high x 0.8m wide. They could be interpreted individually or as an overall artwork. Through the work, we wish to recognize and celebrate the aboriginal heritage of the area on which Northcote High School is situated, including the Merri Creek and the life and work of William Cooper as a local advocate and activist for Aboriginal rights. We propose to use appropriate materials and textures to represent these stories.
