Student Services : Wellbeing

Each newsletter the wellbeing team shares information about upcoming events, resources, and other services. Stay tuned!

This week we officially farewell the summer months. The traditional custodians of the land that we come together to learn on, the Wurundjeri people, call this season luk, or eel season. Over the next few weeks students wandering along Merri Creek might notice manna gum in flower, the weather cooling, and daylight and night hours becoming equal in length.

By this time of year most students will have established a routine (those holiday sleep-ins already seem long ago) and older students will be beginning their assessment tasks. As the weather cools and the days get shorter, it can be tempting to spend more time online. While social media might be the preferred way to relax for many, a recent report from Reach Out shows that parents and carers are concerned about the impact this has on mental health. Families can learn about adolescent social media use and should discuss this regularly. Students with concerns about their own habits might like to read about how to tame their social media use or speak with a member of the wellbeing team for support and other strategies.

Clubs Fair Fun

Last week the Wellbeing team held the Student Clubs Fair. Students enjoyed icy zooper doopers in the sun and the chance to learn about NHS’ many student clubs. New recruits are always welcome – talk to your Student Wellbeing Co-ordinators to learn more or even start your own new club.
