From the Principal

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope that you had a relaxing holiday break and your young people are ready for the final term of the year. For our junior year levels there are 10 more weeks of Term, while our Year 12s now have only 2 weeks left of school. They have already celebrated their graduation and are now preparing for SWOTVAC before undertaking their final exams.

Last week we ran two great celebrations for our Year 12 students; The Senior Art and Design Show and the Year 12 Graduation. Although quite different events, they both highlighted our students’ amazing achievements and were an opportunity to reflect on their time at Northcote. This Newsletter also highlights Lewis Cook’s Schools Spectacular performance that was held just before the term break. It was a pleasure to be invited to watch him perform and I can see the bright future ahead for many of our talented performers and artists.

I am now looking forward to our Art Shows, concerts and events for our Junior students.

Our year 9s are currently completing their Morrisby Career interviews and will be thinking about what their career aspirations are. This will hopefully assist them when the course confirmation days are run later this term and when they too are preparing to undertake their VCE studies.

Thanks to the families and Friends of Northcote for the Comedy Night that ran at the end of last term. It was an hilariously enjoyable evening and well worth the organisation that was required to put the event together.

Please note the end of year dates published in this issue, to assist with planning for this term. We will also have two student free days this Term:

Wednesday, 25 October is a Professional Practice Day (PPD) for staff and will be taken as a common day during Term 4. These days allow staff members to undertake work of their choice such as; curriculum planning, assessment and reporting or professional learning.

Monday 6 November is a day for staff to take the Time in Lieu for hours worked on during Semester 1 and 2, such as the evening PTS Conversations and the evening events held earlier in the year.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our remaining Term 4 celebrations or events,

Chris Jones
