It's a Gig Final Performance

King Yellow and his Fellows

Celebrating our semester and raising money for MND

The “It's a Gig” class put on a fantastic performance for families and friends last Monday, celebrating all the work that had been done over the semester. The concert managed to get 96 people through the door, raising 460 dollars for MND Victoria, which helps families who have loved ones suffering from motor neurone disease. Their mission is to provide and promote the best possible care for people living with MND.

People that came to the concert all had loads of fun and enjoyed 10 acts featuring NHS students. The “It’s a Gig” course is available to years 9 and 10 and teaches students how to become accomplished musicians, how to book gigs, how to manage their bands and equipment, and what to expect when performing. It also encourages students to step outside their comfort zone and try new things that they wouldn’t otherwise get to do.

The show started strong with Cybelle performing two beautiful original songs. We were lucky enough to have “Dogs Purr”, members of Northcote High’s jazz ensemble play for us and surprise the audience with their rendition of the Bunnings Warehouse theme song. Throughout the concert, the audience was stunned by the talent of the students. After over an hour of music the final band “King Yellow and his Fellows” ripped out their original song “Four Minutes In” with incredible guitars, drums, and vocals. It was impossible for the audience to sit still when Theo produced a roaring guitar solo.

Throughout the acts, the audience also were treated to interviews that the production team had edited together to let the audience know who the acts were and what they love about music, they also got a few laughs along the way. Throughout this class, students have learned lifelong skills, such as working in teams they never would’ve expected to and learning how to put on the show of a lifetime.
