Embracing E-Smart

Shaping a Brighter Digital Future for NHS

We are proud to announce that Northcote High School has attained eSmart membership, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to creating a secure and stimulating digital environment for our students. The eSmart Schools initiative is a project of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, backed by the Department of Education. eSmart aims to empower educational institutions, parents, and communities in the pursuit of effectively managing cyber risks, bullying, and cyberbullying. This all-encompassing framework embraces our entire school community – teachers, students, parents, and the library.

What is eSmart all about?

eSmart Schools is more than a program; it is a commitment to education and a powerful deterrent against bullying and cyberbullying. It enables our school to embrace the incredible benefits of technology while shielding our students from cyber risks, such as cyberbullying, online vulnerabilities, sexting, identity theft, and fraud. However, eSmart is not a quick fix. It is a well-documented and sustainably designed solution tailored to tackle cyber risks, ultimately helping us uphold our duty of care by keeping our students safe from cyberbullying and violence.

Why is eSmart important?

In this digital era, our children are growing up with technology at their fingertips. In response, our school community must be equipped to guide young people through the online world, teaching them how to navigate with confidence and resilience. We will help them tackle the pitfalls like cyberbullying, scams, fraud, and exposure to inappropriate content. The vision is to paint a picture of "eSmart Australia" where knowledge about online safety and responsibility exists across all generations, ensuring that everyone, both young and old, possesses the tools to be smart, safe, and responsible online, and to impart this knowledge to our future generations.

Northcote High School is looking to the positive impact that eSmart will bring to our school community. We are committed to fostering a secure, enlightened, and responsible digital environment for our students. Together, let's embark on this journey to create a safer, smarter, and more responsible online world for the bright minds of tomorrow.
