Year 8 Probability Fair

On Tuesday 31st October the Year 8 Probability Fair was BACK! We had 27 groups of Year 8 students participate by running probability-based games of their own invention completed as part of their learning task for Maths.

Over 150 students and teachers came through the fair to play the games in the hopes of winning enough tokens to get a lolly bag at the end. The event was a huge success with everyone having a great time.

A special thanks goes out to all the staff that helped put the event together and run it on the day.

We are all looking forward to an even bigger and better event next year!

Year 8 Captains Report

As the academic year comes to an end, we look back on some of the most exciting and fun things that the Year 8s have been getting up to this term.

Our final round of progress reports came out at the end of the term, concluding the academic year. We also had our Remembrance Day commemoration ceremony that was held with the whole school, where some of the student leaders recited poems and described what the day meant. Concluding as always with the last post and minute of silence where we took time to remember all those that lost their lives for our future.

A few days before that we also got to vote in the Year 9 Election where we walked around and looked at all the parties and what they had to offer, like their policies and what ideas they could bring to our school that they thought would be best. Students went up and voted in booths, just like a real election. It was a great time, and it showed us what it would be like to vote when we grow older, perhaps even followed by a delicious democracy sausage sizzle.

Year 8s also went to spectate at the Year 9’s Science Erudition Expo where they each chose an experiment to partake in and developed a report which we voted on.

At the conclusion of the academic year, we also held a ceramic sale where pieces that were made including jewellery, dishes and even ornaments were sold to the students.

Students also got to test their luck with probability games developed over the term by all Year 8’s, using tokens to play each of the games and winning fun prizes. This was a great way to learn about probability and share our learning with others.

These past few weeks have been a great end to the academic year, and we can’t wait to see what Step-Up and the End of Year Program brings.
