Quirky Couture

Creating outfits with non-traditional materials

Semester 1 saw our Year 10 Quirky Couture students create 3rd scale outfits incorporating non- traditional materials. For most students this was their first experience making garments and many students incorporated complex processes into their garment construction.

My choice of Quirky Couture was based on my willingness to learn despite knowing that I had little experience in the field. Taking this class was one of the best experiences of my life. Through this course, I gained a great deal of confidence in my abilities as a designer and learned many new skills. Even though I was concerned about getting started in design, I found it to be fun and full of many learning opportunities. As a student, I found this course to be extremely enjoyable and intriguing. As part of this subject, you can either design a garment inspired by the Met Gala or the Grammy Awards. In keeping with the theme of the Met Gala, I incorporated Victorian themes. A particular highlight of the class for me was the freedom of choice and the ability to express myself creatively.
