Alex in action for Victoria Metro U16 Basketball

National Basketball Championship success

Talented Basketballer and Year 9 student Alex Mabbott had a pretty exciting school holidays as a late inclusion in the Victoria Metro U16 Men’s team at the recent National Championships in Western Australia.

After being selected as a 'bottom age U16 player' Alex, who also plays Centre with the Coburg Giants, has been training 3 times a week all year with Victoria Metro squad.  He was named as an emergency for the national tournament, but due to an unfortunate injury to a player in the squad, he was he was elevated to the active team and travelled to Perth to compete in the Basketball Australia Championships in the first week in July, a fantastic achievement.

To top off the dream run, Victoria Metro took out gold medal in the tournament, with an incredibly tight final against South Australia Country, winning 112 - 106.

Alex has also been selected to compete in the Giddey-Daniels Cup, which is a 5 week tournament from July to August for Victoria’s National Performance Pathway athletes to compete against each other.

Congratulations Alex!
