Year 11 VCD excursion

Finding Design Inspiration in the City

At the end of last term around 50 Northcote High School Visual Communication Design students embarked on an excursion to Top Designs at the Melbourne Museum, followed by a Design Show at the Melbourne Convention Centre. There was so much to see and do and the students had an incredible time. The Top Designs hosted a huge range of the best work from students across Victoria, with some of Northcote’s own students work on display. Students were encouraged to take photos and gather inspiration for their own work in Unit 2.

Following a nice, relaxed lunch in Melbourne Central, the students took the tram to the Melbourne Convention Centre where, after a tricky sign in process, they embarked on a fiesta of design pop up shops, all under the one roof. There were beautiful light shades made of porcelain pieces, furniture, rugs, shipping container pools, designer talks, interior design pieces made from recycled plastic- the students got lost in a world of inspiration.
