C Block Bookshelf Gallery

New student exhibition space is open

The Art faculty is proud to announce the opening of our new mini gallery.

It is a beautiful hand crafted shelving space, embedded into the wall of our C block gallery. This space is ideal for three dimensional artworks, or smaller two dimensional sketches or paintings.

Our first incredible young artist to display their work is a Year 11 student, Ben Saling-Cohen. Please come down to C Block and see his work on display. You may even get to talk to the artist. Here is what Ben has to say about his work.

‘My name is Benjamin Saling-Cohen, I am a year 11 student at Northcote High School, and this is a retrospective on my 16 years of life so far.
Most of the artworks are drawings, with various types of graphite, colours, copics, and fineliners used and my blue fountain pen works stand out among the rest. The majority of the 3d works are wooden sculptures, but there are a few air dry clay caricatures (Donald trump looking like a shameful little man), and two large wire sculptures. There is also one Lego design I have worked on for over a year now, that is inspired by the famous Lego Modular Buildings series. Many of the drawings pay homage to my idols, mostly musicians and composers, but all architectural drawings have no inspiration, excepting the Collingwood warehouse.None of these works were made for the exhibition, but rather are individual works that I make subconsciously to comprehend what I see around me, the chaos and the contrast.
I hope you enjoy the exhibit, Thank you.’
