Rossmoyne Rummage and Scarecrow Festival

Two community events running in Darebin this month: Thornbury’s Rossmoyne Rummage is on – 2.5km long garage sale! 10am – 3pm, Sunday 29 October. Come and find a bargain and meet your neighbours.

The Scarecrow competition is now Darebin-wide and will be judged by Sammy J,  local comedian and radio presenter. Both events are aimed at bringing the community together, connecting neighbours and creating strong and supportive local networks. 

 

Music from the Wetlands event in Alphington 

The Alphington & Fairfield Civic Association (AFCA), in conjunction with its partners; the City of Yarra, North Fitzroy Community Bank and the Victorian Government Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions are excited to announce that the 10th “Music From the Wetlands Festival” will be held on Sunday 19 November between 11:45am and 5:30pm at the Alphington Wetlands, 1 View St, Alphington.   

 

The Festival commences with a Music March starting at the north entrance to Alphington park (near the Bowls Club) at 11:45am. This is a fun walk down to the Wetlands with Havana Palava leading the way. On arrival at the Wetlands there will be food and drink stalls open for lunch.This is a community event with an environmental focus, organised entirely by volunteers, celebrating Music, Environment and Community.  The event includes a free concert showcasing a variety of musical entertainment, together with stalls and displays from community and environment groups as well as kids activities all day - including crafts, "paint the wetlands" and juggling lessons. 

 

Young Workers community legal centre

The Young Workers Centre operates a free, accredited community legal centre for young workers, aged 30 and under in Victoria who need advice or assistance with any workplace issues. 

 

Since its inception in February 2016 the small team of lawyers have supported young workers in Victoria to recover over $2 million in compensation. 

 

Why might a young worker contact the Young Workers Centre?   

  • To check they are being paid properly   
  • To find out what they should be being paid in the first place   
  •  They are experiencing workplace harassment or bullying   
  • They have been unfairly dismissed from work   
  • They haven’t been receiving superannuation   
  • They are being discriminated against at work
